Two Day Swimming Carnival results

This year saw a new style of Swimming Carnival at St Mary MacKillop College, with the introduction of a Two Day event: a Year 5-8 Middle School Carnival followed by a Year 9-12 Senior School Carnival.

McCormack jumped to an early lead on Thursday, and their determination to fill every spot in every race ensured they finished on top at the end of Day One.

Kelly made a run for the title on Friday and stayed hot on Red’s tail, but McCormack held strong to finish in front by a mere 54.5 points and hold up the House Shield for the second day in a row.

It was fantastic to see all House members’ willingness to get competitors into every race. This is a credit to the House Coordinators and Student House Leaders.

The new format created an amazing atmosphere for students, staff and parents at both carnivals in surprisingly different ways. The enthusiasm of younger students in the Middle School Carnival produced an atmosphere of fun and participation across all year groups. This was most evident when the entire student body joined in the Macarena, to the delight of both staff and parents.

The absence of younger students in the Senior Carnival, on the other hand, opened the way for the older year groups to engage more in all aspects of the event, producing a day of excitement and celebration. This relaxed atmosphere culminated in new Novelty events that included teams from both staff and parents up against the Year 12 Houses.

The involvement and enthusiasm at all levels made both carnivals efficient and memorable, and Head of Sport Andrew Culnane thanks all staff, Student Leaders and the Year 11 and 12 Sports Coaching Certificate students for their assistance with the smooth running of both events.

Maddison Johnston-Walker continued her efforts to clean-sweep the record books, breaking all four A division records for the Year 10 Girls, while Beau Johnson, Carson Webster and Sabella Banks dominated the new Year 5 and 6 records.
