Primary choir join One Big Voice in Perth

Last Friday the Primary Choir attended the One Big Voice Festival in Perth. Formerly called the Westcoast Songfest, this event has been going since 2001 and brings together choirs from more than 40 Primary schools across WA, joining over 2000 voices in song at the Perth Arena.

Students learned the parts and harmonies for eleven different songs for this event, including Sheppard’s ‘Coming Home’, Brad Paisley’s ‘The World’ and ‘This is Me’ from The Greatest Showman, as well as some fun sound making performances that create an amazing effect with many voices.

The songs are selected not only for their performance qualities with a large number of voices, but also their meaningful and inspirational lyrics. The aim of the event is to use music to bring people together, based on the Plato quote: “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything”.

Choirmaster Janine Milicich said the result was breathtaking in front of the huge audience. “So many little voices all joined in One Big Voice brought many a tear to the eye.” She also said that the children did the College proud and thanked the parents who helped and the staff who helped to make this opportunity possible for the students. “They sang so beautifully and their behaviour was excellent.”
