ACC Basketball Championship South West Pool

ACC Basketball Championship South West Pool

On Thursday 4 March our basketballers headed north to Bunbury to participate in the ACC Basketball Championship Carnival for the South West Pool. Our players were keen to get involved and with our opponents comprising of Georgiana Molloy, Frederick Irwin, Our Lady of Mercy and Bunbury Cathedral Grammar we were expecting some very challenging games.

The 7-9 Junior boys had great success in their matches defeating GMAS and Bunbury Grammar, although matches against Fredrick Irwin and Our Lady of Mercy proved to be a little more competitive. Well done boys on a great effort.

Results:
MacKillop 26 v Frederick Irwin 36
MacKillop 25 v GMAS 20
MacKillop 45 v Bunbury Grammar 28
MacKillop 24 v Our Lady of Mercy 41

The 7-9 Junior girls were extremely competitive in their pool matches, consistently displaying a high level of skills. Unfortunately, GMAS proved too strong in the last match and with it an opportunity to advance to the next round. A herculean effort, girls.

Results:
MacKillop 35 v Bunbury Grammar 6
MacKillop 24 v Frederick Irwin 22
MacKillop 24 v Our Lady of Mercy 24
MacKillop 14 v Georgiana Molloy 27

The 10-12 Senior boys experienced an extremely challenging pool of matches, with Georgiana Molloy the team to beat. Defensively the boys worked really well keeping the opponents searching for points. In all matches the boys never stopped trying with all games decided within the last five minutes. Great effort, boys.

Results:
MacKillop 28 v Bunbury Grammar 35
MacKillop 29 v Our Lady of Mercy 37
MacKillop 31 v Georgiana Molloy 45
MacKillop 18 v Frederick Irwin 21

The 10-12 Senior girls performance proved to be really competitive with multiple contributors to the scoreboard and excellent defensive pressure. Unfortunately Frederick Irwin were too strong in the second half securing the match, and the game against Georgiana Molloy came down to the last few minutes to decide the final result. All in all a fantastic effort girls in an extremely competitive pool.

Results:
MacKillop 34 v Our Lady of Mercy 21
MacKillop 31 v Bunbury Grammar 16
MacKillop 17 v Georgiana Molloy 29
MacKillop 16 v Frederick Irwin 28

I would like to congratulate all students who tried out for basketball trials (please keep trying out) and for those participants who achieved selection to represent the College at the ACC basketball championship carnival.
