Students and guests have a Ball at Aravina

On Friday 7 February our Year 12 students and guests attended the St Mary MacKillop College Year 12 Ball. The venue was Aravina Estate Winery in Yallingup, and the ‘Casino Royale’ theme set the scene for what was a spectacular evening. The Red Carpet Arrivals again were a highlight as the ladies amazed the crowd in their glamorous dresses, accompanied by the sharpest looking gentlemen, all suit-ably attired.

Paralympian Brant Garvey tells Year 11s: “no excuses”

Brant Garvey was born missing his right leg above the knee, but that hasn’t stopped him from achieving some exceptional feats.

He shared his story with a group of Year 11 students on Friday as part of their Religion and Life course looking at what gives meaning and purpose in life.

Movers and shakers: staff changes for 2020

We bid a fond farewell to three of our Primary teachers - Michaela Sawle, Claire Peirce and Clint Fabre, and thank them for everything they brought to the College during their time here. Nat Power will be taking leave for a year, and our warm wishes go with Helen Rabjones as she embarks on her classroom teaching career in Dardanup.

High Distinctions Awarded in Mathematics

Certificates of High Distinction were awarded to two of our students this year in the Australian Mathematics Competition, which was held in August. Noah Bates in Year 8 and Olivia Hogarth in Year 10 were placed in the top 3% of students in Western Australia for their results, an outstanding achievement.

Students have service ‘in the bag’ for Ironman

A group of Year 10 students spent Wednesday morning helping to pack competitor bags and towels, and arrange medals for the upcoming Busselton Ironman over the weekend. This community event takes place each year in Busselton, and organisers rely on volunteers to assist with the preparation and smooth running of the weekend.

A letter from the Prime Minister

A surprise came in the mail recently for one of our Year 8 students, Sam Walker, in the form of a letter from the Prime Minister, Scott Morrison.

It was in response to a letter he had written to Mr Morrison back in September, as part of the HASS curriculum.

Presentation Night Special Awards

Congratulations to Brendan Allan, who was awarded Dux of the College at the recent Secondary Presentation Night, with Proxime Accessit awarded to Samuel Riches. The AustralianSuper VET Award for Excellence was presented to Kane Dawson, who successfully completed three pre-apprenticeship vocational programs in engineering, building/construction and carpentry.

South West Philosothon: tackling the hard questions

On Wednesday 23 October, an enthusiastic team of four students - Cicely Hodel and Nicholas Pavlinovich from Year 9, and year 8 students Charlotte Rice and Holly Andrews - attended the South West Regional Philosothon at Georgiana Molloy Anglican School along with teams from Bunbury Cathedral Grammar and Bunbury Catholic College.

Year 7 students sock it to poverty

During Religious Education classes in Term 3, Mrs Williams’ Year 7 students were challenged to choose a Social Justice issue and effectively ‘do something about it’.

Phoebe Marinich and Alyssa Chromow chose to look at the issue of poverty.
