This semester senior students took on a Service Learning challenge to make dolls for children in need. In purchasing a Uthando doll kit, attending workshops and spending time at home creating a doll, around 80 MacKillop students have ensured children living in Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa have a gorgeous doll to love and learn from.
The Uthando Dolls program advocates that caring for the world's children is everyone's responsibility. The HIV/AIDS pandemic has bought grief and loss to sub-Sahara Africa and the dolls created are given to children to love, look after and learn from in health education programs.
The success of this year’s Uthando program at the College has been supported by our very dedicated staff, Mrs Janet Mullany and Ms Sandra Smith. We also received fantastic support from Mrs Fay Bock, grandmother of one of our students, who spent a great deal of time knitting doll's underwear, blankets and clothes for students to include in their packs.
We look forward to even more students taking on the challenge for this great cause in 2017. n
