Bishop Gerard Holohan visited the College on Monday to speak with Year 6 students as they prepare for their Confirmation.
The candidates met with the Bishop in small groups as they discussed what it means to make this renewed commitment to their faith, and their journey ahead as young adults in the Church.
“Parents have remarked that it’s the highlight of their child’s week,” said Mrs Jenni Harding, whose Pre Primary students have been excited to make use of the dance studio on the second floor of the new gymnasium building for creative movement lessons recently.
Congratulations to Locklan Lee-Perkins and Rohit Wagh for winning the $50 prize in the recent Bionic Hand competition during Science Week.
Students had a lot of fun designing and creating their bionic hands, which were then put through their paces.
Year 11 students spent some time with Year 3 students recently as they explored Genesis and the Creation stories in Religious Education. Students produced their own storybooks aimed at Primary students, with the aim to seek understanding and to depict how each story communicates values applied to daily life.
Last week the College thanked the current 2016 Student Council for their commitment and service over the last twelve months and announced their newly elected Secondary Student Council, who will take up their positions at the beginning of Term Four. These 12 students representing Years 10-12 will join Head Girl, Delaney Wilson, and Head Boy, Riordan O’Shea, to form the student leadership team of the secondary campus.
The Cinefest Festival offers South West students the chance to see both Australian and world cinema that they wouldn't normally have access to. Year 10 and Year 11 Media Production and Year 11 English students had the opportunity to attend films, talks and workshops over the course of the festival.
On Friday 26th of August, the Year 11’s enjoyed a night of dancing and socialising at the annual Spring Fling. The highly anticipated event was met with enthusiasm and excitement, as the students arrived in their finest attire and entered the Winter Wonderland.
Earlier this month 30 students and three teachers set off for Canberra to were undertake an educational tour of the National Capital. Whilst on the tour, they participated in a variety of educational programs focused on Australian history, culture, heritage and democracy.
In collaboration with Our Lady of the Cape and St Thomas More Catholic Primary schools, St Mary MacKillop College was proud to host the inaugural Capes Curriculum Conference on Friday 19 August.
Author Deb Fitzpatrick visited the Secondary library on Monday to kick off Book Week this year, holding a writing workshop and meet-the-author sessions with Year 9 students.
