On Thursday 2 June athletes representing St Mary MacKillop College boarded the bus at 5am in order to compete in the ACC Cross Country at Alderbury Reserve - Perry Lakes, Perth.
At the carnival around 60 schools were competing, with an average of 330 athletes in each race.
St Mary MacKillop College’s Year 10 boys AFL team played some outstanding games against quality sides to win the ACC Year 10 School Boys South West Carnival on Wednesday. The boys rose to challenge with a great style of play, fancy foot skills and excellent teamwork to convincingly win all three games and progress undefeated into the Grand Final Carnival in Perth next week.
Once more we enjoyed some winter sunshine and blue sky as students in Years 3-6 took to the oval for their Cross Country races on the morning of Friday 10 June. The 1.2km course wound its way around the oval, before following the track behind the College and back towards the church.
The lava was flowing in Year 9 Science this week, as students completed the construction of their volcanoes and simulated eruptions with different chemical reactions. The students used their imagination and creative skills to design and make some amazing volcanoes using a variety of recycled materials, paper mâché and modelling clay.
Our Year 11 Manufacturing Industry students have been building outdoor furniture this term for our Kindy and Pre Primary students to enjoy in the Early Learning Centre, as part of their certificate courses in Building & Construction and Furnishing.
The Year 5 and 6 students represented our College at the South West Primary Schools Association (SWPSA) Winter Sports Carnival on Thursday 2 June, at Hay Park in Bunbury. Students chose to participate in hockey, netball, football or soccer in teams against a number of primary schools from around the South West.
On Saturday 11 June, our Senior Girls Football team played against Georgiana Molloy under lights at Sir Stewart Bovell Park, as part of the community event Kicking to Conquer Cystic Fibrosis.
Following the Busselton Magpies League game, the game garnered plenty of interest as the girls demonstrated their ability in front of a huge crowd.
Year 7-9 vocal students travelled to Mandurah on Wednesday to participate in a three-hour workshop with Australia’s premier vocal group ‘The Idea of North’.
Families from St Joseph’s Parish celebrated on Sunday 29 May as 44 children received the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time at Our Lady of the Bay Church, with Father Nic as celebrant. We concluded the Parish celebrations with a delicious morning tea.
Year 9 student Jaylen Colegate has been selected recently in the WA Country Mens under-16 team to play at the National Championships in August. He has been training in Perth and will travel with the team to Melbourne, where he had played in the Southern Cross Challenge with the Country Mens under-15 Development Team in January.
