B Division ACC Swimming Carnival in Perth

The College’s best swimmers faced a tough battle against seasoned squads on Tuesday at the ACC B Division Swimming Carnival in Perth.

Our Senior students produced some exciting results, and strong relay performances boosted both the Senior Girls and Senior Boys Aggregates to third position by the end of the day. Head of Sport Mr Andrew Culnane said the senior students did an amazing job balancing their training with the academic demands of Year 11 and 12. “Younger students attending either for a single event or as reserves also supported the team by stepping up as needed,” he added.

Several of our individual students put in strong performances all day, with some hard-fought wins and others just missing out by mere tenths of a second. Year 12 student Ross Rann featured in a very close battle for Under 19 Male Champion, placing third, only one point behind a tied first place. Niamh Jury placed third in the Under 17 Female, and Angus Johnston-Walker tied for third in the Under 16 Male.

After a very early start and a long drive, our junior swimmers struggled to place in events for much of the day, but their enthusiasm remained to the end. “They got in there and swam their hearts out anyway,” said Mr Culnane. “They should be proud of their work to get to this high level of competition.” Year 8 student Rylee Williamson performed consistently to finish third in the Under 14 Female Champion.

Many students managed personal best times, and Mr Culnane said all students should be congratulated for the efforts they put in on the day as well as their commitment to training sessions leading up to the event.

The PE Staff and swimmers also thanked Mrs Janet Mullany and the Certificate in Hospitality students, who got up early to cook and provide breakfast to the swim team after morning training.
