Aboriginal Liaison Officer

This is a full time or job share, ongoing position commencing during Term 1, 2025

Reporting to the Head of Catholic Identity & Mission, the Aboriginal Liaison Officer (ALO) works within our College community to support indigenous students, foster cultural understanding, and strengthen relationships with the local indigenous community. A key element to this position is educating students and staff on indigenous perspectives and leading cultural celebrations that enhance the College’s inclusivity and respect for the Aboriginal heritage. This position ensures that indigenous students feel supported and have equitable access to educational opportunities.

You will identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Straight Islander under section 50(d) of the Western Australian Equal Opportunity Act.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A willingness to promote and support Catholic values as a member of the St Mary MacKillop College community.
  • Certificate III in Education Support is essential, with Certificate IV in Education Support preferred (or working
    towards).
  • Previous experience in a similar or related role ideally within a school environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • An understanding of cultural protocols and sensitivities.
  • The ability to provide guidance and instruction, to individual students, small groups and in classroom settings.
  • The ability to promote indigenous cultural awareness within the College community through events, workshops and curriculum support, and to organise cultural celebrations, guest speakers and community involvement initiatives.
  • A current Working with Children Check and a valid Crim Check (or be willing to obtain).
  • A proven ability to work in a collaborative environment as a member of a team.
