Year 7 AFL team finish strong against BCG

Year 7 boys gave new definition to the word ‘excited’ with possibly the loudest, high-pitched bus ride I have ever experienced in seven years of teaching as we travelled to Bunbury Cathedral Grammar for our first game as ‘MacKilla Gorillas’.

With footy jumpers down to our ankles, even Keely Trigwell managed to keep his focus despite sledging from his own team for wearing a ‘nightie’. We focused on giving all our players an even run and trying out different positions, and still managed a hard fought victory with the team’s never-say-die attitude.

The boys matched Grammar goal for goal in the windy conditions, and going into the final quarter MacKillop were 4.4.28, against Grammar’s 5.1.31.

But MacKillop finished strong with Marley Harbel’s goal of the day taking us to 6.4.40. Corey Botica’s tackle of the day around the hips of Grammar’s ruckman kept Grammar scoreless in the final quarter, much to the disappointed of their home crowd.

Congratulations to all the boys, who played a fantastic game with great spirit.
