Year 11 MacKillop student Riley Culnane was named Runner-Up in the Busselton Rising Sports Star for 2017, in an evening where six of the twelve finalists were students from the College once again.
Riley’s continued success and leadership in netball at state and national levels, including touring to Fiji in May with the All Australian 15s Netball Team, contributed to her selection for the $1000 prize. She was more recently named captain of the ACC Girls All Stars Team, and will play against the combined government schools team (SSWA) as a curtain raiser to the WA Netball League Grand Final in at the State Netball Centre Perth on Sunday 27 August.
Year 9 student Maddison Johnston-Walker took home the $400 Encouragement Award for her success in swimming. Selected for the WA State Swimming Team in April, Maddison is also in the SSWA Pacific School Games squad preparing to represent the state in Adelaide in December.
Other Rising Sports Star finalists from the College this year were Jaylen Colegate (basketball), Hannah Greenfield (surf lifesaving), Fraser Oates (cricket), and 2016 graduate Demi Liddle (basketball and athletics).
MacKillop students are continuing to rise and achieve success across a wide range of sports.
Year 7 student Emma Jackson has also made it through to the final trials stage for the under 12 WA Netball Team, and Year 11 student Reuben Thew has also been named in the 20-man squad who are vying for selection in the WA under 17 Soccer Team in the next few weeks.
We wish these students success in these trials and beyond, and continue to encourage and support all our students striving for sporting achievements.
