Students across Years 5 and 6 participated in the first of our new leadership workshops aimed at Primary students on Friday, facilitated by Mark Clayden from ‘4 The Team’.
All Year 5 students attended a presentation given by Mark in the morning, where they explored personal skills and being the best YOU that you can be. Students then participated in a number of team building games that focused on ‘guts’, resilience, and having the attitude of “I Can”.
Year 5 students who had applied for the 2018 Student Council then spent some extra time with Mark considering aspects of leadership such as communication, teamwork, cooperation and problem solving. This workshop ended with students discussing the value of respect and trust in leadership, and they took part in activities that showed these qualities in action.
The day rounded off with a session that involved our current Primary Student Leaders as well as other Year 6 students identified as future leaders. Students looked at the advantages and challenges of ‘leading from the front’, but also explored what it means to ‘lead from behind’. During the workshop, students completed games and tasks that highlighted the importance of teamwork and the roles within any given team.
Students unanimously agreed that the workshops created a balance of “excellent fun” and “really interesting points” on leadership that many had not thought about before.
