John Filipiak is now well and truly on the move, thanks to the generous support of the community. His modified vehicle has arrived, and he now has his fully customised wheelchair and a gym installed at home to help with physio and exercises.
Geraldine Gamble’s ‘Wheels for John’ campaign was topped off with a recent busy bee at the Filipak home to help prepare the yard for both vehicles, completing installation of a new driveway and footpath to the back of the house. “Her faith in the community was boundless and we were gobsmacked at the response.”
Mr Filipiak is looking forward to a gradual return to teaching in second semester, and has already visited the College grounds to check access to areas such as the staff room and science labs. The plan at this stage is to be back teaching a period or two per day initially from next term.
