At the end of Week 8 last term, students in Years 7-9 enjoyed a Youth Rally arranged by the Bunbury Diocesan Youth Ministry. The feature artist and speaker was Melbourne singer/songwriter Genevieve Bryant, whose songs ‘Pure of Heart’ and ‘Enough for Me’ featured at Australian Catholic Youth Festivals in 2015 and 2017.
The rally was organized as part of the national Year of Youth identified by Australian Catholic Bishops for the 2018 liturgical year, which ‘calls for dialogue and active engagement focused on the reconnection and renewal of a new generation of young people in the life of the Church’.
Genevieve performed with musicians from the College studying Year 11 Certificate III in Music, who had learnt and rehearsed her songs. She spoke to Middle School students during the rally about her love of music, the theme for the Year of Youth to ‘open new horizons for spreading joy’ as well as her faith journey, including the inspirations behind each song.
Genevieve has been composing, performing and working with schools and parishes across Australia for over 14 years.
Head of Ministry Bernice Roche said this was the College’s first youth rally, and she was pleased with the response from students. “It’s been an energetic way for students to both experience and spread joy in this Year of Youth.”
