St Mary MacKillop College sent a team of 63 students to Perth early last Thursday morning to compete in the ACC Cross Country Carnival at Perry Lakes. The event hosted over 70 schools, with more than 300 runners in each event, and all our students ran amazingly on the day. Overall our students did extremely well, with our school finishing thirteenth overall.
We had some outstanding individual results, showcasing how good our MacKillop athletes are. Year 12 students Beau Haynes and Cody Wilkinson finished in the top 25 male runners overall, less than three minutes off the lead. Beau Haynes completed the 4km course in 13:42.91, which was an impressive ninth in the Under 19 Division, while Cody finished thirteenth in 14:00.97. Year 9 student Jeremy Rolfe also finished twentieth in the Under 15 Division with a time of 15:07.09.
The girls completed a 3km course, with five of our team finishing in the top 100 overall, out of more than 1500 female runners. Lucy Hill came in tenth in the Girls Under 19 Division with a time of 11:41.37, with fellow Year 12 Ella du Preez finishing sixteenth in their Division at 12:11.30. Year 7 student Charlize McKeag followed Ella through at 12:18.81 for sixteenth spot in the Under 13 Division. Year 10 student Ashlee Jarvis finished fourteenth in the Under 16 Division on 12:23.68, and Kara Haynes in Year 8 finished 25th in a very quick Under 14 Division at 12:26.51.
