On Wednesday the 30th March the children in Kindergarten 1B were very excited to see an excavator working across the road from their classroom. We investigated what “diggers” look like and what they do and then, guided by the children's interest, we decided to make our own excavators using box construction.
The children collected the materials they wanted to use and a table was set up outside so they could get a really good view of the excavator as they built their own. The creations and the enjoyment gained from this activity demonstrate how readily the children make connections and contribute to the world around them.
