Students get a closer look at science thanks to Rotary

Many students on our Primary campus have taken their first look into the microscopic world this week, with a class set of 32 microscopes donated by Busselton-Geographe Bay Rotary Club.
The hand-held microscopes with stands have already been used by Years 3-6 Science classes this week, and are versatile enough for students to make use of them in the new outdoor classroom.
Primary Science Co-ordinator Miss Cranley said the kids were fascinated with how different everything looks when you zoom in to sixty or a hundred times their normal vision.
Bernie Masters from the Rotary Club was on hand today to see the Year 3 students exploring a variety of objects up close, from seed pods to cupcake crumbs. One student remarked that it “looked like a galaxy of stars!”

Bernie said the Microscopes in Schools program has been an ongoing success, and the students are always excited to try this new way of looking at things. “It opens up a world for the kids that they wouldn’t be able to see otherwise.”
