Year 4 students get a ‘Taste of MacKillop’

The College invited Year 4 students to experience life as a secondary student recently for our annual ‘Taste of MacKillop’ day. Year 9 students were guides and mentors, helping Year 4 students enjoy a range of activities as they rotated through Woodwork, Home Economics, Drama, Science or Physical Education. The students visited a range of secondary classrooms, specialist facilities and outdoor teaching spaces, with opportunities to create and interact in a practical way with the teachers, the secondary environment and with new friends.

Meanwhile, visiting parents and teachers were treated to barista coffee from our Year 11 Hospitality students, and enjoyed guided tours of the campus by Year 9 and 10 students. The ‘Taste of MacKillop’ morning takes place once a year for Year 4 students from our Catholic feeder primary schools, and acts as a guided first step as students and parents start thinking about the transition to secondary. In 2017, the morning will be open to all Year 4 students in the region.
