ACC (Secondary) Cross Country in Perth

On Thursday 2 June athletes representing St Mary MacKillop College boarded the bus at 5am in order to compete in the ACC Cross Country at Alderbury Reserve - Perry Lakes, Perth.

At the carnival around 60 schools were competing, with an average of 330 athletes in each race. The girls completed a 3km course, while the boys ran 4km around Alderbury Reserve.

All our athletes performed to the best of their abilities and we were very proud of their efforts in this challenging event. St Mary MacKillop College finished a very impressive 14th place out of the 29 schools that qualified for the overall trophy by entering a minimum of 5 runners in each age group for both boys and girls.

Thank you to all athletes for their attendance at training sessions in preparation for the ACC Cross Country event, and for their commendable behaviour and enthusiasm on the day. Special mention and thanks go to the students who attended the carnival initially as reserves, and on the day ran and competed in a higher age group to complete our team numbers due to injury and illness. U/13s Keely Trigwell and Cory Botica competed in the U/15 Boys race; U/14s Maisie Winning and Clare Newhill competed in the U/15 Girls race, and U/15 Jaylen Colegate competed in the U/16 Boys race. They performed exceptionally well in the higher division, and are to be commended for their efforts. Thanks also to those senior students who juggled representing the College at this carnival as well as studying for their exams.

Thank you to Mr Paul Culnane, Mr Andrew Culnane and Mr Mark Taylor who were instrumental in preparing the athletes for the Cross Country, conducting three training sessions a week in the lead up to the event, and to Mr Miles Armstrong, Miss Morgan Stark and Ms Sandra Smith for also giving their time to accompany, encourage and organise the athletes at the event.
