Years 7-9 Maths students ‘have sum fun’ online

Over three consecutive weeks, ten teams of students in Years 7, 8 and 9 had a go at some very tricky maths problems posted online in the Have Sum Fun Online competition. Conducted by the Mathematical Association of WA (MAWA), the challenge was to solve problems as a team of four and post the correct answers online in the shortest possible time, with a total of an hour to complete each round. Our students were pitted against teams from 26 schools across the state.

Our highest scoring Year 7 team went into the last round in fourth position on the league tables. After some unfortunate computer problems and a set of ten quite perplexing questions, they finished tenth out of 76 teams behind St Hilda’s, Perth Modern and Penrhos. Congratulations to James Gosper, Joshua Harris, Meg Lucas and Tenille Pavlinovich. A fantastic effort!

In Years 8 and 9, the most successful teams both finished in 13th position in their respective competitions.
