Strong winds and poor conditions at Gracetown, Cowaramup awaited the St Mary MacKillop College Surfing Team as they prepared to take on other South West schools at the 2016 SunSmart WA School Surfing Titles - South West Division.
The team consisting of 3 Body Boarding teams and 5 Surfing Teams where ably supported by Team coaches Mr Ben Horrocks and Mr Mark Taylor.
The Senior Boys Surfing, Junior Boys Surfing Team, and Senior and Junior Boys Body Boarding Teams performed extremely well on the day but where up against Margaret River Senior High Schools State Age representatives and it was always going to be tough heats, unfortunately for St Mary MacKillop College we were eliminated in the first round of each division. A huge effort from our only girl team member Jazmin Martin, who competed in the team event as a single surfer and ended fourth on the day. In the end Margaret River Senior High School where too strong on the day in most age categories, taking out the South West Zone Title.
