Camp and Activity Week: Students step out of their comfort zone

Last week, while our Senior students were away on various camps, the Middle School students enjoyed a wide range of activities designed to build friendships, resilience and teamwork skills, and to challenge them to choose life with courage.

All year groups enjoyed activities run by teaching staff as well as AdventureWorks, while Year 7 students also visited the Butter Factory Museum and Busselton Jetty, and cut some moves at the St Vincent De Paul fundraiser Disco. On Friday, Year 7s took time to appreciate and bless their mothers with a mass and delicious morning tea, and finished the week with a challenging session run by Acting Up.

Highlights for Year 8 included an 80s themed Disco, yoga and Forrest Adventures, as well as a range of teambuilding, communication and problem solving challenges. Year 9 students also headed to Bunbury for ten-pin bowling and roller-skating.

Our Senior students were also taking some steps out of their comfort zone. Year 10 students embarked on a five day outdoor adventure camp with Explorus in Karridale, which included a high ropes course, abseiling, canoeing, hiking and a visit to Giants Cave. The beautiful weather was about the only thing particularly comfortable for many of the students about this mentally and physically challenging week.

Year 11 students took a trip up to Perth to explore further study and career opportunities. The different groups followed a variety of interests, with visits to universities, residential colleges, Parliament House and Westrac, as well as many other sites around our state capital. Fun in the evening included ten-pin bowling and a visit to Fremantle Prison.
Year 12 students spent four days on retreat in Dwellingup, where they explored a deeper understanding of their faith and personal identity. Students enjoyed spending time in small groups focusing on relationships and identifying their own strengths. New friendships were forged, there were moments of reflection, tears and a growing appreciation for individual differences. Students gained insights and a greater respect for others around them.
