Melbourne Arts Tour 2017

Melbourne Arts Tour 2017

The recent Arts Tour to Melbourne in the April school holidays was a fabulous experience for the fourteen students and three staff members involved.

We departed Perth airport on Easter Monday and embarked on a tour rich with culture for six days. For the first time, a media itinerary was added to the mix and the tour comprised of three alternate itineraries for Visual Arts, Drama and Media students.

There were so many excellent learning opportunities including a full day animation workshop at the Australian Institute of Technology for the Media students, a tour and workshop at the iconic Heide Gallery for the Visual Arts students and an acting workshop at Melbourne Theatre Company for the Drama students.

Our jam packed itinerary kept everyone very busy and engaged and The National Gallery of Victoria, a Street Art Tour and workshop and drawing workshop at the Ian Potter centre proved inspirational for the Visual Arts students. The Drama and Media students were involved in live TV tapings at The Project and Charlie Pickering Live, as well as backstage tours of Malthouse Theatre and hands on learning at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI).We were also very lucky to watch the new musical Aladdin at Her Majesty’s Theatre on the final night!

Overall it was a fabulous experience for all involved and has provided the students involved with a rich learning experience which they can apply to their studies here at St Mary MacKillop College.
