Assembly and Awards 4SM: World Explorers

Assembly and Awards 4SM: World Explorers

The theme for Mrs Moon’s Year 4 class assembly last Friday 16 June was 'World Explorers'. The Year 4 students have been ‘exploring’ this theme across History, English and Technology & Enterprise during this term.

The assembly began with a brief introduction to the 'Age of Exploration', during the fifteenth to seventeenth century, and the influences that these journeys had on the world. The students then shared a poem/rap they discovered about world explorers who came across Australia in their travels.

After the Junior Awards, the Year 4 students described and explained three types of world explorer vessels used during this time: the Carrack, the Caravel and the Galleon. Explorers were able to travel further distances more successfully as these ships grew more advanced. The class also showed a PowerPoint presentation of all the explorer vessels they had investigated, designed and constructed during Technology and Enterprise.

The final act was a 'World Explorer' parody to the tune of Dynamite by Taio Cruz. The students came up with actions to go with the words of the parody about the reasons why these great journeys of exploration occurred and what happened because of them.

The students were well prepared, enthusiastic and wonderful entertainers, and a great time was had by all. Well done 4SM!
