High Tea for Timor and Raffle results

The ‘High Tea for Timor’ has become one of the highlights of the College’s social calendar, not only as a great celebration of community, but also as a significant fundraising event for the communities and schools we support each year in East Timor.

By all accounts, the 230 guests who attended and supported this afternoon of fun and fabulous food on Saturday 10 June had a wonderful time. The entertainment began with beautiful foyer music provided by Emily and Chrystal Hearn, Brielle Hunt and Paige Harrison, and continued with Miss Kathy Jackson’s entertaining call of raffle winners. 2016 St Mary MacKillop College students Madison Davies and Ella Lowe also spoke about the inspiration behind our visits to Timor and the transformation that this service and immersion experience provides for our students, before presenting a lively video of last year’s trip.

Many individuals and companies contributed prizes for the raffles, so we thank and acknowledge them all for their invaluable support. The families and friends of our students selected to go to Timor in July 2017 have given generously of their time, talents and hard work to this event, as well as many other fundraising initiatives over the last nine months. All the delicious food for the High Tea was donated by family and friends, beautifully presented and served by the students, with help from parents and siblings who faithfully manned the kitchen. The endeavours of this 2017 Timor Team have been truly inspirational, and they are to be commended on their commitment and example of service.

Our community’s enthusiastic support for the High Tea and the day’s raffles raised over $6500, every dollar of which will go directly to the people of East Timor. The College has long standing commitments to assist where needs have been identified by the local people: building or rebuilding schools, teacher training and the education of students in Baguia, as well as contributing to the education and health projects of the Sisters of St Joseph through the Mary MacKillop International Timor mission.
