Assembly and Awards 1CP: Experiencing many firsts

Mrs Pusey and Mrs Christie’s Year 1 class were very excited to be presenting their first ever assembly in front of the school and were dressed up in an array of different animals and character costumes thanks to the wonderful efforts of their dedicated parents. It heightened the anticipation of their debut performance, but they were super-focused and did not disappoint.

After welcoming everyone to the assembly, Room 4 led the College prayer and started the assembly off with a song and dance about being good friends to each other and helping each other to learn. This has been a huge focus in our class as we have learnt to get along with our peers and to grow and learn together as a class family.

The students then shared a selection of slides showcasing all the amazing experiences they have had since starting this school year. The theme for this act was "In Year 1 we have experience many 1sts (Firsts)". Experiences included an excursion to the Butter Factory and Jetty in Term One, counting the days at school using pop-sticks bundled into groups of ten and then celebrating 100 days with a class party, catching the bus to the Leisure Centre for swimming lessons and getting to swim in the ‘big’ pool for the first time. They also showed some of their creative pursuits in Art as well as Design and Technology in a PowerPoint.

The class introduced a new class member to Room 4: "Fletcher the Class Teddy Bear", who got to have a sleepover at everyone's house during Term 3. Everyone had recorded their adventures in Fletcher's Diary, which they had brought back to share with the class.

To conclude this section, the students showed off their linguistic talents by singing an Italian song they had been learning in Italian with Mrs Milicich, called "Animal Sounds", led by the gorgeous singing of Federica Scomazzon and Havanna Bates.

For the final act, the students presented a reader's theatre performance of the classic story "The Enormous Turnip". The whole class got to show how well they can read together and the actors were amazing! Well done to Hunter Jensz, who was recognised for his acting ability as well as his amazing improvement in all areas of the curriculum with a class merit award along with Liana Hughes who has made great gains in working both independently and cooperatively with her peers. Nathan Jenkins was the star of the show as the Enormous Turnip, and thankfully our bright sun - Spencer Armstrong - managed NOT to fall off the stage during the performance.

Best of all, everyone had an opportunity to contribute to the assembly by either reading, singing, dancing or acting. All the students loved the limelight - that's for sure! Well done Year 1 Room 4 - Mrs Christie and Mrs Pusey are very proud of you all!
