Twelve year old Michala Gibsone looks set to break Australian and State Small Fry Gamefishing records after she reeled in a 9.9kg Pink Snapper on a 6kg line at a recent fishing competition with the Naturaliste Game & Sports Fishing Club, smashing the previous record of 7.6kg, set in 2012.
The Year 5 MacKillop student also caught a 4.4kg Sampson Fish on a 4kg line during the same local Two Oceans 2019 Light Tackle game fishing competition, which could earn Michala two national gamefishing records in one weekend!
Following normal procedure, the forms are currently pending with the Gamefishing Association but if approved, Michala will join fellow MacKillop student, Ember Jensz (Year 3) in the record books. Ember currently holds the national and WA Small Fry Gamefishing record for Australian Salmon on a 3kg line, set in 2017.
