Assembly and Awards (2EM): sightseeing tour

Our Week 2 Assembly was co-ordinated by Miss Meagher’s Year 2 class, who showcased the Investigatory learning that they participate in each morning through a sightseeing tour. The children explore at a station of their interest and practice current learning goals.

The Year 2 students have been looking at poetry in Literacy, and recreated a poem called ‘The Sound Collector’. They have also been learning about an important local figure in history by the name of Grace Bussell. The children displayed their artwork created from Michelle Gillespie’s book ‘Sam, Grace and the Shipwreck’.

To conclude their assembly, the Year 2s sang ‘I do like to be Beside the Seaside’, a song which tied in with their History learning. Written in 1907, this song celebrates the seaside holidays popular in Great Britain during the early 1900s. Many people would exercise by walking along the ‘prom’ or promenade, breathing in the fresh air.
