MacKillop Day Mission Mart

MacKillop Day Mission Mart

Primary Campus celebrations for MacKillop Day on 5 August included a ‘Mission Mart’ day, which has been a primary campus tradition for over twenty years. Funds raised from the event go to the Sisters of St Joseph missions in Peru, and Friday’s Mission Mart was hosted by Year 2 and Year 5.

Year 2 parents provided delicious treats to be sold at the recess cake stall, including homemade cakes, slices, popcorn and more. Selling these items gave Year 2 students a great opportunity to learn about money and change. They were helped out by their teachers, Year 5 and 6 students and parent helpers Jocelyn Bird and Mia du Preez.

At lunchtime the Year 5 classes held fun games to entertain the crowds. Students had worked in small groups prior to the day to come up with fun stall ideas for raising money. Games they came up with included soccer shots, girl glamour nail polish, ‘Last Cast’ fishing line throw, bottle top throw, guess the number of jelly beans, power of ping-pong, popstick points, catch-a-pokemon, and Insane Bolt.

Year 5 student Max Marshall said “the Insane Bolt game was fun and students had to run backwards to a point and run back to the start as fast as they could”. His favourite part of the day, however, was “thinking of the games and setting everything up”.

The Primary campus raised $474.60 from the cake stall and $983.45 from the games, for a total of $1458.05 raised, along with plenty of priceless fun.
