Top award again at Perth’s Angelico Art Exhibition

A Year 12 student from St Mary MacKillop College has once again received the top award at the 23rd Angelico Art Exhibition in Perth’s Forrest Centre. Emma Craig was presented with the 2016 Fra Angelico Award on Tuesday night at the opening of the annual exhibition of artwork selected from Catholic high schools across the state.

Judge of the award, Father Chris Ross, praised Emma’s “fine and subtle line”, which he said “brought us into influences in her life and challenged us to reflect that all is not as it seems at first”.

The highest accolade presented at the exhibition, which this year showcases 132 selected artworks from students in Years 7-12 at 23 Catholic schools, the Fra Angelico Award recognises an artwork that embraces and upholds Catholic beliefs and values. Emma is the second MacKillop student in three years to win the award, which also recognises the winning College as ‘host school’ for the following year’s awards in Perth.

Congratulations to Emma Craig on winning this prestigious award, and well done to the following students who also entered and had their artwork selected for the exhibition: Jessica Strother (Yr 12), Leyla Allerton (Yr 11), Ashlea Douglas (Yr 10), Ella Smith (Yr 9), Tia Hegarty, Zoe Salmond, Magnus Scott and Boda Stocks (Yr 7).

The Angelico Exhibition is open for viewing in the lobby of the Forrest Centre, Perth, during office hours (Mon-Fri 9-5) until 26 August.
