ACC Swim Team earns B Division fifth and shield win

The College’s ACC Swim Team fought a tough battle on Tuesday at Challenge Stadium in Perth to hold our spot in the B Division competition and bring home the Girls Aggregate Shield, after jumping up from C Division with a debut win last year.

With only a handful of points separating fourth to eighth place all day, the positions changed up and down with every score update, and we struggled for a first place in any race.

Nevertheless, our students performed strongly in the backstroke and relay events to lift our score out of the danger zone and into a respectable fifth place at the end of competition.

As an indication of the level of competition, two ACC competition records were broken on the day, with MacKillop students finishing second in both races.

A huge effort from our Division II relay teams, many of whom had never competed at interschool level before, resulted in some great placings and a healthy boost to our score. Our reserves also stepped up bravely to fill spots above their age group, and provided much needed assistance in the background.

The whole team competed with great heart and sportsmanship, and they all deserve credit for their efforts. At the end of the day, it was our girls who came home with a trophy: placing third in the Junior and second in the Senior categories to tie with Kolbe College in first place for the Overall Girls Aggregate Shield.

Congratulations to Indiana Williams, who was Runner-Up U19 Female champion, and to Ross Rann as Runner-Up U17 Male champion. Well done also to Maddison Johnston-Walker and Beige Harris for earning third and to Matilda Reynolds for her fourth place in the individual age champion rankings.
