Primary Assembly and Awards (6CF)

Mr Fabre’s Year 6 class from Room 17 have been reading a book called ‘Wonder’, about a boy called August who is attending school for the first time. August has severe facial deformities from birth, and other students are confronted by his appearance.

The Year 6 students adapted scenes from the book to share with their fellow Primary students. Through August’s story, they aimed to show younger students how much they had learned during their time at the Primary campus, as well as how to behave with their friends, how to overcome challenges to friendships and to be resilient when facing difficult situations.

August survived his first time in the classroom, with some help from a new friend in Charlotte. The first scene showed that being a good friend means helping others when they are feeling nervous and scared. In the second scene the students showed that the words we say can’t be put back in our mouths, but that kind actions can help to undo the hurt of mean words.

In the final scene, August showed that help can come from the least expected places, and that knowing what it is like to be hurt can be turned into kindness towards others.
