Forensics workshop inspires Yr10 students

Year 10 Extension Science students got the chance to put their logical and problem solving skills to the test this week, as they worked on solving a real life police case in an interactive forensics workshop. The students gained hands-on experience in forensic science and the processes that forensic scientists carry out in their occupation.

Students considered the evidence presented to them in regards to a drug related murder. There was a crime scene, DNA evidence, eyewitness testimonies, bloodstains and various other details to be work through before students could zero in on the perpetrator.

The case was not clear cut, however. There were a dozen suspects to choose from, and all were involved in some sinister way, so the students were divided in their accusations. At the end of the activity they constructed a re-enactment of the crime to confirm their suspicions and their suspect.
