Mr Magee’s Year 4 class shared what they had been learning about in English this term all about Advertising. They looked at a number of techniques used by advertisers when writing advertisements to persuade people to buy their product. Students applied what they had learned to create posters advertising the assembly, which they displayed around the school.
The class invited the audience to recognize some well-known logos and slogans including Google, Toyota, Subway and Nike. They finished their first act by singing and dancing to the Happy Little Vegemites song, which has been popping up in advertising for this iconic Kraft product since 1954.
The students from Room 11 returned after the Junior Merit Awards to perform some skits they had created to advertise imaginary products, using techniques they had learned during class.
The class then looked at some examples of popular music used by advertisers to attract attention to their advertisements. They finished their assembly with a performance of the song "SHOUT", first recorded in 1959 by the Isley Brothers, and used recently in advertisements for Kmart.
