Year 7 students celebrated Book Week recently with a ‘fantasy hat tea party’ in the library at recess.
Staff decorated the Library entrance as a wardrobe portal into Narnia, complete with coat rack, snow covered trees and lamppost.
The library invited students to create a hat or mask based on a fantasy creature or imaginative creation of their own. Wearing the hat earned them a special pass through the ‘wardrobe’ to enjoy some delicious treats. There were some very clever and creative designs, including monsters, unicorns and a ‘Beauty and the Beast’ mask.
Year 7 Homeroom teacher and English teacher Ms Tracey Kerry said the event coincides with Year 7s studying the fantasy novel for English this term. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to get together and discuss their favourite fantasy novels and dress up” she said. Teachers awarded prizes to the three best creations, which were a rainbow unicorn, some tasty-looking cupcakes, and an elaborate tea-party hat.
