Olympians visit for Champions 2 Country

Australian International athletes, visited the College last week as part of the Champions 2 Country 2017 South West regional tour.

The aim of the tour has been to motivate students and aspiring athletes to reach for goals which were out there and targets they could aim for.

Olympic gymnast and Australia Ninja Warrior contestant Olivia Vivien said the tour was important because regional children did not have access to as many opportunities. “It is nice to have inspirational role models come out.”

Trent Mitton, striker for the Australian Men’s Hockey team and Olivia shared their stories with students about how they had overcome their own challenges, realizing that talent alone will only get them so far and that it came down to hard work and making use of opportunities when they arise.

The Year 11 Phys Ed students were given the opportunity to stay back for a private Q&A session and have some fun with Olivia in a hand stand competition.

Both athletes commented on the calibre of the questions raised by the students and how much they enjoyed their visit to the College.
