Camp Week Years 9, 11 & 12

On Friday our Year 9, 11 and 12 students returned from Camp Week – some smelly, most exhausted and all of them a little changed by the experience.

This was the first time our Year 9 students took on the five-day Explorus Camp based in Karridale, and most approached the week with a healthy mix of excitement and trepidation. Designed to take students out of their comfort zone and enable the development of leadership, problem-solving and teamwork skills, the camp also involved plenty of outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing, abseiling and caving.

Year 11 students headed to Perth for a look at post-schooling opportunities, splitting into groups that reflected their study and career interests. While some groups enjoyed tours of university facilities and participating in some courtroom dramas, others experienced Westrac’s Institute, Joondalup Police Academy and the Defence Force, took a tour of Austral Shipping, Optus Stadium, and had a go at wheelchair basketball. The cohort came together for dinner and evening activities such as bowling and a spooky tour of the old Fremantle Gaol.

The Year 12 Retreat has always been a special experience for our graduating students, and once again they returned from Dwellingup with a different attitude towards both their peers and teachers, particularly after a lengthy break from technology for the week. Students worked in small groups to reflect on themselves, form new bonds and prepare for the rest of the year.
