Primary Assembly 4SM: rockin’ your way to health

The Room 13 assembly was all about Health. Mrs Moon’s class informed the audience that we need a balance of physical, mental and dietary health to have optimal health in our lives. The Year 4s shared what they have been learning while designing and creating a Health Promotion Park for Technology, Health and HASS to counteract the limited facilities available for kids in Busselton that promote all three types of Health.

Beginning with dietary health, a group of students sang and danced to the ‘Food Group Rock’. Jordan played Elvis and led his meat, fish, chicken, fruit and veggies through their messages. The song explained how each of the different food groups benefit your body. After the song each group member shared a few other important pieces of dietary advice.

The message about mental health was delivered in a skit that introduced Bree, who was feeling a bit down in the dumps. Her school friends, one at a time, suggested various activities that may help her to feel better. These useful strategies included reading a joke book, taking a walk in nature, gazing at the clouds, drawing, doing some exercise and finding someone to talk to. When Bree responded that she doesn’t have anyone to talk to, her friends then rallied together and sang Marvin Gaye’s ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’, reminding Bree know that they would be there for her no matter what. She jumped up and joined her friends happily.

Mrs Moon’s class then delivered their physical health messages through a parody of Taio Cruz’s ‘Dynamite’. These messages were about needing to exercise for at least an hour a day, do a variety of movements, get off screens and just to move, move, move.

The Year 4 students finished their assembly with another kind of physical health: dancing. The class sang and danced to the song ‘Better When I’m Dancing’ by Megan Trainor. All of the dance moves were energetic and creative and everyone managed to master all of the moves which were performed in sync.
