BMXWA State Championship in Perth

Braiden Abrahamse took part in the BMXWA annual State Championship in Perth on Saturday 8 October 2017, with a total of 523 male and female riders competing in age classes ranging from 8 years to 50+.

Braiden competed in the 12 Boys class, where he was ranked third in WA going into the competition.

Assembly and Awards 3KC: Italy during the Renaissance

What an amazing performance Room 8 gave for their assembly. To highlight and extend their knowledge of Italian, the year 3 students were very excited to perform their assembly in Italian. Working under minimal time every Friday to learn their lines and practice songs, the students were both dedicated and motivated as they sang, spoke and acted through a variety of settings based on their research of the Renaissance period.

Anxiety in Kids: How to Turn it Around and Protect Them For Life

As parents and educators, giving our kids the life skills to navigate the world is something that we spend a lot of time focusing on. Building courage and resilience are two of those life skills – courage to adapt, to embrace challenge, to be curious and kind, to push past their edges when anxious and dust off and try again when things don’t go as planned.

New leaders enjoy ‘4 the Team’ workshop

Year 11 students selected for the new Student Council to begin next term spent an afternoon last week with Mark Clayden from ‘4 the Team’. The group worked on discovering their personal skills and strengths as well as those of their team.

Mark facilitated a number of tasks that highlighted the advantages and challenges of ‘leading from the front’, as well as exploring what it means to also ‘lead from behind’. Students completed tasks that pointed to the importance of teamwork and the roles within any given team.

Student Council initiates activities for Mental Health Week

Year 10 Student Council member, Finlaey Hewlett, has been the driving force behind last week’s activities to mark Mental Health Week at the College.

She said she always admired how much the College community focuses on taking care of students as a whole, not just on an academic level. “The mental health of both students and staff is a key part of this,” she added.

Primary Leadership Program Begins

Students across Years 5 and 6 participated in the first of our new leadership workshops aimed at Primary students on Friday, facilitated by Mark Clayden from ‘4 The Team’.

All Year 5 students attended a presentation given by Mark in the morning, where they explored personal skills and being the best YOU that you can be. Students then participated in a number of team building games that focused on ‘guts’, resilience, and having the attitude of “I Can”.

John Burland Brings Music and Song

On Monday 11 September, educator and composer John Burland visited the Primary campus to present a celebration of catholic faith through the gifts of music and song.

The students enjoyed learning some beautiful new songs, with actions to go along with them, during this fun and interactive workshop with classes from Pre Primary to Year 6.

ACC Athletics Carnival ‘D’ Division 2017

The St Mary MacKillop College Athletics Squad boarded the bus at 5am to travel to Perth to compete in the ACC ‘D’ Division Athletics Carnival held at the State Athletics Centre, Challenge Stadium on Monday 11 September.

Congratulations to Year 12 Reuben Thew, whose individual achievements earned him second place competitor in the Open Male age category for the carnival, and to Year 7 Gabriel Doolan who placed fourth in the U13 Male age category.
