Year 12 students prepared for Nursing studies

nursing students sml12 Year 12 students from St Mary MacKillop College are on track for a career in Nursing with the completion of their Certificate IV in Preparation for Nursing Studies this week.

MacKillop was one of the first schools in the South West to complete the VET program, which was delivered by Registered Nurse and Senior Lecturer Jasmine Scadden through the Southern Regional TAFE. It was designed to provide students graduating Year 12 with necessary skills and knowledge to continue studying nursing at the diploma and undergraduate level.

The 300 hour course provided students with underpinning knowledge of human anatomy & physiology, medical terminology and health mathematics. Students developed a strong understanding of how microbiology is related to health care, the application of physics and chemistry fundamentals to nursing practice, and the use of effective academic skills, including word-processed presentation of work.

The nationally recognised certificate also allows students interested in other health areas such as psychology or health promotion to satisfy entry requirements.
