Head of Learning Area – English (Year 7-12)

This is a full time, ongoing position commencing Term One 2026

Reporting to the Head of Secondary, the Head of Learning Area – English (7-12) is an ideal opportunity for an enthusiastic, experienced and highly motivated teacher to lead our dedicated English department in delivering exceptional outcomes for our students across the secondary campus.

As Head of Learning Area, you will:

  • Provide strong leadership to a team of passionate English teachers.
  • Support and coach staff to build capacity through sharing best practice teaching strategies.
  • Oversee curriculum planning and assessment.
  • Analyse student data to inform improvement strategies and drive literacy achievement.
  • Champion a culture of creativity, critical thinking and achievement.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A strong commitment to the ethos of Catholic Education and a willingness to promote and support Catholic values as a member of the St Mary MacKillop College Community.
  • Current and full registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA).
  • The ability to teach Year 7–12, including ATAR English and ATAR Literature is essential.
  • Demonstrated success in a curriculum leadership or complimentary middle leadership position.
  • Deep curriculum knowledge, strong leadership capabilities and a commitment to fostering a love of literature, language and learning.
  • An educational vision and strong sense of purpose consistent with the College Mission.
  • Completed, or be happy to commit to work towards, Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic School.
  • Proven ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • A commitment to professional growth and staff development.
  • Effective communication fostering strong relationships with students, colleagues and parents.
