Impressive City to Surf results

The College had a team of ten runners register for this year’s Busselton City to Surf for Activ on Sunday 29 July, with some impressive results on the day.

Congratulations to Year 7 student Mackenzie Christian, who was the fastest female under 16 years in the 12km run.

Leadership Program development days

Year 5 students recently completed their Leadership Day – the last of four days tailored for specific Year groups as part of the College’s new Student Leadership Program. Run by Mark Clayden from 4 the Team, each day focuses on developing leadership skills that prepare students to take on leadership roles within the College at each year level.

Primary Choir second place at Bunbury Eisteddfod

On June 15, the Primary Choir travelled to the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre to participate in the WA Performing Arts Eisteddfod. After singing all the way on the bus, the students put in a wonderful performance against six other schools from the region.

Pre Primary students plant interactive gardens

Bunnings staff spent the morning with Pre Primary students on Thursday to help them plant a vertical sensory garden and symmetrical flower garden in the College’s Early Learning Centre.

Mrs Howell arranged with Activities Coordinator, Breeanna Forestier, for her Pre Primary class to participate in a Planet Ark tree planting initiative that offered alternative planting options with a focus on sustainability.

Meet our Italian exchange students

The College welcomed five exchange students from Italy at the end of last term, who spent the first week shadowing a Year 11 student from their host family, before selecting their own subjects for this term. This is third year the College has participated in the exchange program, which also sees the hosting student spend two months in Italy at the end of this year.

Girls Place Second in ACC Hockey Challenge

On Thursday 21 June, our boys and girls hockey teams travelled to Bunbury to compete in the annual Bunbury & Districts ACC Hockey Challenge. The boys’ team faced an uphill battle all day, however, with eight of the twelve players in Years 7 and 8, while the team of fourteen girls from Years 9-12 played some fantastic hockey, which took them into the grand final.

Year 7 Freo Dockers Cup in Bunbury

On Tuesday 19 June, the Year 7 Girls and Boys AFL teams travelled to Hay Park in Bunbury to compete in the ACC Year 7 Freo Dockers Cup. A very busy fixture saw the students hop off the bus with just four minutes to the first bounce down and play five games without a break.

Rally brings joy for 2018 Year of Youth

At the end of Week 8 last term, students in Years 7-9 enjoyed a Youth Rally arranged by the Bunbury Diocesan Youth Ministry. The feature artist and speaker was Melbourne singer/songwriter Genevieve Bryant, whose songs ‘Pure of Heart’ and ‘Enough for Me’ featured at Australian Catholic Youth Festivals in 2015 and 2017.

The rally was organized as part of the national Year of Youth identified by Australian Catholic Bishops for the 2018 liturgical year, which ‘calls for dialogue and active engagement focused on the reconnection and renewal of a new generation of young people in the life of the Church’.

Genevieve performed with musicians from the College studying Year 11 Certificate III in Music, who had learnt and rehearsed her songs.

Year 11 students attend Philosophy and Ethics Symposium

On Thursday 21 June a group of four Year 11 ATAR Religion and Life students attended a Philosophy and Ethics Symposium at Notre Dame University in Fremantle.

After a hearty, welcoming morning tea, the first session looked at methods of inquiry with a particular focus on Existentialism.

Year 10 students prepare for road responsibilities

On Friday 22 June our Year 10 students took part in the Keys for Life Program, which provided the students with opportunities to evaluate the responsibility that they accept when they become road users.

The students have spent a number of PCP sessions last term preparing to obtain their Learners Permit, with a view to eventually getting behind the wheel of a car.
