Year 4 students from Room 14 have been learning about the First Fleet, and looked fantastic dressed as convicts for their assembly on Friday 26 August. They began with some talented student acting out examples of difficult experiences the convicts had endured in England in the 18th century.
Students then described the boats involved in the First Fleet and the terrible conditions for the convicts on board. They displayed pictures of drawings of the ships and images depicting the timeline and events on the convicts’ journey to Australia. Students also recited and acted out the hard life for the convicts once they arrived in Sydney Cove, and how their efforts contributed to our wonderful life today.
The Year 4s concluded their assembly by singing the song ‘Bound for Botany Bay’, which tells about the journey the convicts made and their feelings at the time.
Mrs Somma presented medals for the Read to Rio challenge at the assembly, and the following Merit Certificates were also awarded:
