Pre Primary students enjoy new dance studio

“Parents have remarked that it’s the highlight of their child’s week,” said Mrs Jenni Harding, whose Pre Primary students have been excited to make use of the dance studio on the second floor of the new gymnasium building for creative movement lessons recently.

The students are learning to warm up their bodies and to move in a variety of ways, using their locomotor skills to move through the space. Walking, galloping, hopping, jumping and skipping are among the many options for getting around the room.

Mrs Harding said that the purpose-built studio had many advantages for her students. “It is a lovely open space where the children can explore their creativity through movement, away from the confines of the classroom. The sprung wooden floor surface is ideal for sliding, rolling and leaping.”

The children also work collaboratively with a partner to make interesting shapes with their bodies. “Young children are active learners and many concepts involving mathematics and literacy can be integrated into a creative movement lesson.”
