St Joseph’s Day: if I were a carpenter…

Primary students explored the world of carpentry and wood on Friday as part of our St Joseph’s Day celebrations.

After celebrating Mass as a whole school community and a St Patrick’s Day morning tea for staff, the Year 3 and 4 students met Mr Harrison Ward, who works as a carpenter. He demonstrated how a dining room chair is made, and the students had plenty of questions about what it’s like to be a carpenter today.

Year 1 and 2 classes also tried their hand at carpentry, making wooden pencil cases in a workshop with Bunnings. They had help from parents as well as some Year 6 students to put together the pieces of wood with glue, hammer and nails.

Year 5 and 6 classes enjoyed a guided tour of the secondary campus Design and Technology Centre, including the woodwork, jewellery and metalwork studios. They explored some of the projects students from Years 7 to 12 have created, from keyrings and jewellery boxes to surfboards and chopper bikes.
