Assembly and Awards 3JK: exploring change

Year 3 students in Room 10 have been exploring change across all learning areas during Term Two. They have been researching how change impacts our interests, life cycles, the environment and where they live.

The Room 10 assembly started with a PowerPoint display of open-ended projects where students had researched a person, event or invention that has changed our history. The projects were an impressive display of new learning and ranged from posters on the invention of penicillin and airplanes, to the influence of Anne Frank.  Students have also been looking at how animals change to adapt to their environments. In T&E they ‘invented’ a creature by combining the attributes of two animals to fit an unusual environment such as living on Mars or in a toilet bowl. A slideshow of these hybrid creatures played to the music ‘All Creatures Great and Small’.

After the Upper Primary awards, students demonstrated how music had also changed over time. Students dressed up and choreographed a series of short dances to a mash up of music from the 1940s right up to today. Songs included The Andrews Sisters’ Bugle Boy, Elvis Priesley's Hound Dog, The Beatle's All You Need is Love and Ed Sheeran's Shape of You, to name just a few. It was a hit with the whole school singing along.

The final act had students drumming, dancing, singing and waving flags of all different countries to the song ‘Wavin' Flag’ by K'Naan. With the lyrics “when I get older, I will be stronger,'' it was a fitting end to the assembly, reflecting the learning journey that the students are on at the school.
