Year 7 students sock it to poverty

During Religious Education classes in Term 3, Mrs Williams’ Year 7 students were challenged to choose a Social Justice issue and effectively ‘do something about it’.

Phoebe Marinich and Alyssa Chromow chose to look at the issue of poverty. They teamed up with Gaby Irvine and Eihley Smith to launch the College’s first Socktober event in Monday 28 October. The girls organized and promoted a Puppet Making activity and Crazy Sock Day for the Primary students, with the aim to raise awareness of poverty, as well as funds for Catholic Mission.

Socktober is an initiative of Catholic Mission, and it proved to be a fun and engaging experience for the students who participated. The group raised approximately $95 and are planning an even bigger Socktober in 2020.

Thank you to all those people who donated socks for the puppets, wore crazy socks and made beautiful puppets.
