Capes Conference – growth through great teaching & learning

In collaboration with Our Lady of the Cape and St Thomas More Catholic Primary schools, St Mary MacKillop College was proud to host the inaugural Capes Curriculum Conference on Friday 19 August.

With a theme of ‘Growth through great teaching and learning’, the aim was to enable teaching staff in the South West to gather, share and learn from each other in a high quality, professional learning day. This exciting and innovative new event also recognises the wealth of educational knowledge and expertise we have working here in the Capes region, with many of the sessions organised and facilitated by teachers and staff at the College.

Attended by 265 teaching staff from ten schools across the region, the day began with a keynote lecture from Dr Tim McDonald, Executive Director of Catholic Education WA, and continued in a variety of workshops covering topics such as classroom strategies, resources and digital learning. MC for the day was CEWA Director of Teaching and Learning, Mrs Gabrielle Doyle.

Feedback from attendees was resoundingly positive, with many teachers declaring it the best professional learning they had been to. The broad workshop topics created a buzz with teachers, excited to discuss ideas and strategies on improving the learning of their students.

The committee would like to thank the entire College community for their support, including students who gave their time to help out as guides.
