Year 7 students celebrated Book Week recently with a ‘fantasy hat tea party’ in the library at recess.
Staff decorated the Library entrance as a wardrobe portal into Narnia, complete with coat rack, snow covered trees and lamppost.
The library invited students to create a hat or mask based on a fantasy creature or imaginative creation of their own.
During Week 6, the Year 8 students participated in a wind tunnel challenge workshop facilitated by Questacon Smart Skills. The workshop took students through the innovation process of think, make, try and refine.
“We learned about wind-tunnels, indoor skydiving, ‘proto-storming’ and MacGyver,” said Year 8 student Marc Aquino, who enjoyed the challenge of engineering an object using limited materials that will float in a wind tunnel for a minimum of ten seconds.
Over a hundred students from the College travelled to Perth recently to perform in music and dance at the Catholic Performing Arts Festival.
The festival, which was held from mid July until September 1, showcases the diverse and creative arts skills of students in Catholic schools.

With the College Equestrian Team performing so well at the WA Inter Schools Championships in April, both Annabel Creek and Katie Shepherd were selected for the WA Inter Schools Equestrian Team following the competition, although Katie will unfortunately be unable to attend.
Year 10 Extension Science students got the chance to put their logical and problem solving skills to the test this week, as they worked on solving a real life police case in an interactive forensics workshop. The students gained hands-on experience in forensic science and the processes that forensic scientists carry out in their occupation.
Preventing bullying and giving students the knowledge and skills to create their own safe environments online is the aim of recent Headspace workshops with our Year 7 and Year 8 students.
Secondary students seem far less likely to ask for help or support from teachers at school than they were when they were younger.
On Wednesday 14 June a team comprising of Year 9 and Year 10 boys competed in the ACC Schoolboys Cup at Hay Park in Bunbury. The annual football carnival saw our boys compete against teams from Bunbury Catholic College, Mandurah Baptist College, Mandurah Catholic College, and Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School.
Year 12 Human Biology students from St Mary MacKillop College visited the Lotterywest Biodiscovery Centre this week at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research in Perth.
Research scientists at the new QEII Medical Centre in Nedlands provided the students with opportunities to work with real DNA in a Level 2 Laboratory and to better understand methods of identifying DNA mutations.
On Thursday, 22nd June the St Mary MacKillop College girls and boys hockey teams travelled to Bunbury to play against three other schools in the ACC Hockey competition for the South West.
Our boys’ team knew they would be facing a challenging day, with half the team made up of Year 7 and Year 8 students.
