Year 11 St Mary MacKillop College student Shona Kiely has won a gold medal at the annual Beijing Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition recently, for her research project on a biodegradable fungicide to treat dieback in native plants.
More than 1500 students from all over the world presented their projects at the annual competition held in Beijing, China, with gold medals awarded across 39 categories including computer science, mathematics, biomedical and environmental engineering.
Mindfulness, dance, Lego, chess, yoga and computing - these are some of the interesting activities Primary students can now do during their lunch break at the College, thanks to some passionate and dedicated teachers and Year 6 students.
The week begins with Mindful Mondays in the Library, with relaxing music playing in the background, while students participate in some mindfulness colouring and self-guided reflection.
The fourth annual Between the Lines Literacy Festival was hosted once again by St Mary MacKillop College on 28-29 March. Organised in collaboration with Dymocks Busselton, the event brought plenty of authors and illustrators to Busselton for workshops and Q&A sessions, attracting participation from a number of surrounding schools.
Year 8 students Samuel Newland-Gleeson, Ben Luplau, Jett Watts and Jasper Reynolds travelled to Perth to compete in the final of the Herbert Edwards Cup on Tuesday 26 March at the Robertson Park Tennis Club, finishing as runner-up regional school in the statewide competition.

Students were sorted into their Houses much like the characters in J.K Rowling's famous series Harry Potter.
On Wednesday the 27 March a group of female students from the College, identified as gifted and talented in Science and Mathematics, travelled to Murdoch University in Perth to experience a wide range of STEM-based workshops and activities at the WISE Women Showcase.
The College’s top 70 swimmers travelled to HBF Stadium in Perth to compete in the ACC C Division Swimming Carnival, after a month of preparation that included early mornings and hundreds of laps.
It was a successful day with the MacKillop students hopping on the bus at 5am ready to give their full effort.
Mrs Harslett’s Room 5 Assembly was based around their class novel for this term: Wonder by RJ Palacio. Students began by introducing the narrative hook used by the author to draw the audience in and encourage the reader to want to explore the storyline, and then explained Mr Browne's Precepts from the story.
Last Wednesday, the Secondary campus kicked off the first of its annual House days by celebrating Kirrane with a feast of green, just a few days short of St Patrick’s Day.
Students in Years 7-12 in Kirrane were invited to wear their green House shirts on the day and treated to a welcoming reception and priority seating for Assembly – entering the gymnasium to applause and the rousing anthem ‘Paint the Town Green’ by The Script.
When 1.6 million children around the world protested recently about climate change, our Student Council were also keen to give students at the College an opportunity to make an impact.
In the Secondary Campus during Monday lunchtime, Year 12 student Eva Burkhardt organised a protest and a minute of silence in the main quadrangle, as a small contribution to this global action.
